EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON RC COLUMNS STRENGTHENED WITH HIGH-STRENGTH STEEL STRANDED WIRE MESH AND POLYMER MORTAR UNDER LARGE ECCENTRIC LOADING

Rehabilitation of reinforced concrete members with high-strength steel stranded wire mesh and polymer mortar (SMPM) is a brand new technique of structural strengthening. Experiments were conducted to investigate the behavior of 9 columns including 6 strengthened specimens and 3 comparative ones under large eccentric loading. The experimental results showed that the load-carrying capacity of the columns increased obviously by the rehabilitation without too much increment of the cross-section. Based on the test results, the ultimate load-carrying capacity, mode of failure, cracking behavior and load versus mid span lateral deflection curves of the strengthened specimens were summarized and analyzed. It was also proved that this technique is an excellent one in the retrofitting of the reinforced concrete structures.
