STUDY ON THE STATIC BEHAVIOR OF VIERENDEEL TRUSS JOINTS REINFORCED WITH INTERNAL STIFFENERS UNDER IN-PLANE BENDING
This paper reports the results of static tests on two vierendeel truss joints reinforced with internal stiffeners in the chord under in-plane bending. The moment-rotation curves and the ultimate capacities were obtained. Test results indicate that the failure modes are composed of weld split, shear deformation and local buckling at the compressive flange of the brace. Such kind of local buckling could be avoided and the stress distribution at the flanges of the brace could also be homogenized by setting a longitude stiffener. However, its deformability is debased due to this way. The calculation comparison indicates that such kind of joints has a higher load bearing capacity than those without internal stiffeners.
