THE TEACHING REFORM OF CONCRETE BEAM EXPERIMENT
The regular undergraduate concrete beam experiments were designed and cast by the teachers during the preparation. The students only need to do the proving test according to the reference book. For the collapse modes are different, the sizes of section, length and steel numeral of the experiment beams are respectively different, which adds trouble to both designing and experiment. This paper puts forward a small standard beam reserving hole but without steel bar for students themselves to design the span (which should not exceed the beam length), load point and the steel bar put in the hole, which will reveal various collapse modes including fail in bending and shear failure. Furthermore, is concurrently achieved, which is rarely demonstrated during undergraduate times. The new design enriches the old-fashioned proving test and makes it into a comprehensive experiment of creativity.
