PROSPECT OF STRUCTURAL TESTING WITH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Described in this paper is the motivation to develop the parallel pseudo-dynamic testing system using the Internet for infrastructure systems such as elevated bridge systems. At first the computer-aided structural testing at Kyoto University in 1980-90s is summarized; then, the effective use of the man- machine interface and the Internet for structural testing at the early stage is described. Secondly the parallel pseudo-dynamic testing system developed at Kyoto University is briefly introduced. Finally, the prospect of structural testing with computer and computer-aided information technology is discussed
