Acoustics of Ancient Greek and Roman Theatres
This paper deals with the acoustics of ancient Greek and Roman theatres as it merges from an extensive investigation carried out within the ERATO project ( Identification Evaluation and Revival of the Acoustical Heritage of Ancient Theatres and Odea) financed by the European Commission. In the paper, a deep analysis was devoted to analyze and understand the typical structure of the impulse responses measured in some of the best preserved examples of ancient Roman theatres, namely Aspendos theatre in Turkey and the South Theatre in Jerash, Jordan. Specific acoustical measurements were also carried out on a 1: 20 scale model of the Siracusa theatre.
