Research on the Optimization of Diffsorbers
In the architectural acoustics in engineering, the sound fields that have an insufficient degree of diffusion or the rooms that are lack of sound absorption are often problems to acousticians, especially in small rooms like critical listening rooms, sound recording studios and studio monitor rooms. As there is no enough space to utilize both the diffusion and the absorption, scattering surfaces with specified sound absorption, namely the diffsorbers, is necessary to design.. In the past two decades, great progress in diffsorbers design had been made, not only in the aspects of surface shapes, but also in other fields. On the basis of the known knowledge of sound absorption and sound diffusion, and by utilizing the pseudo-random theory of number theory as well as fractal theory in physics, this paper develops a theoretical analytical method to design diffsorbers and presents a new optimization procedure to produce various diffsorbers with different absorptions. In the mean time, experimental researches on these diffsorbers are carried out, and the corresponding practical application is also discussed.
