Adoption of Collaborative Real-Time Information Services: a Study in Technological Innovation
Web-based technologies are now quite widespread, and this paper relates how traditional information and communications technologies can be coupled with Internet technologies in offering e-business solutions. The paper describes an experimental framework implemented in the PHOENIX research project at Victoria University. Internet and other ICT products can be thought of as inventions, but it cannot be assumed that they will automatically be adopted. Introduction of any new information system requires a business to make changes in the way it operates, and this it may not be willing to do. Such changes should be considered in terms of innovation theory and the paper introduces and describes several different approaches to theorising innovation.
