Semiotic methods in Information System development
Because of the influence of the traditional system theory, cybernetics and software engineering theory, the current theories and methods about information system development are more concentrated on the realization of the functions, but often ignore the problems of the enterprises human-based management, operation rules and criterions. There are not suitable methods or tools to describe the unstructured and fuzzy characteristics of the enterprises, so we have to introduce some new methods and concepts to extend the theory of information system development. This paper studies the application of the Semiotics in the information system development. It introduces the Semantic Analysis Method and Norm Analysis Method, and the new concept of information management, Normbase. Then it summarizes these methods, and points out the deficiency of the semiotic methods and the future development.
