Frequency Upconversion in Er33+-Doped Alkali Lanthanum Gallate Glasses
Frequency upconversion of Er<3+> in alkali lanthanum gallate glasses (Na<,2>O-La<,2>O<,3>-Ga<,2>O<,3> or NLG) was investigated. Visible emissions at 532, 546, and 660nm corresponding to the <2>H<,11/2>→<4>I <,15/2>,<4>S<,3/2>→<4>I<,15/2>, and<4>F<,9/2>→ <4>I<,15/2> transitions were observed under continuous wave excitation at 980nm. The quadratic pump power dependence of these emissions indicated a two photon upconversion process. At a pump intensity of 52 W·cm<-2> at 980nm, frequency upconversion efficiencies of 1.1×10-2 and 2.7×10-3 were obtained for green and red emissions. respectively.
