Research on Mechanism of Steam Breakthrough in Steamflooding

Thermal recovery numerical simulation has been performed to get the formation temperature distribution first, and then thermal sweep volume efficiency was computed based on the rheological conversation temperature of heavy oil. Orthogonal numerical simulations have been performed for study on steam breakthrough, it has been shown that high permeable layer and well space and cycles are the major factors to affect the breakthrough, and there is the same tendency for steam breakthrough trend when increasing formation permeability and steam displacement velocity as well as well spacing reduction. There are larger temperature difference for high and middle and lower permeable layer at steam breakthrough, and the steam breakthrough occurs mostly along the major streamline between the injector and producer, and range of volume swept in injection part is lager than the production part. Steam Swept performance will be different for different permeability and thickness product, and for different cycle, and steam injection parameter will have effect on the performance. Swept volume efficiency for high permeable layer presents power law equations vs. well space. Well group L1173 in Jinglou Oilfield was selected to calculate the breakthrough channel volume for profile control design.
