Challenges in Artificial Lift in High Pressure, High Temperature Cyclic Steam Stimulation Operations
In high pressure, high temperature cyclic steam stimulation (HPHT-CSS) used for the recovery of extra heavy oil and bitumen, artificial lift related problems can result in significant costs and lost production. For this case study a database of some 500+ pump repair/inspection records, along with operating data covering a 5 1/2 year period were used to identify, rank and gain insight into the artificial lift problems occurring in one HPHT-CSS operation. The potential causes of the two primary failure modes are identified and reviewed.
