Preparation of TiC and cracking of deoiled asphalt realized simultaneously by high energy ball-milling
Deoiled asphalt and titanium were milled by a planet ball milling in order to prepare TiC and examine the cracking behaviors of deoiled alphalt. The milled powder samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurement and scanning electron microscope (SEM). The produced gases were analyzed by gas phase chromatography. The results indicated that the C-C bonds of the aromatic rings were broken into actived carbon atoms during milling process because of the inductive effect of Ti atoms. The carbon atoms provided element C for the fabrication of TiC by mechanical alloying. The H atoms of aromatic rings were released to form H<,2> The side chains are cracked into CH<,4> and C<,2>H<,6>. The effects of C/Ti ratio and the milling time on mechanical cracking and alloying were discussed in detail.
