Influence of Asphaltene Content on the dynamic Viscosity of Liaohe Crude Oil

Numerous research efforts have been extended towards the development of viscosity correlation models that are capable of predicting crude oil viscosity as a function of physical properties, and/or chemical composition, if available, using equation of state or based on certain theoretical models. Reported correlation models are reviewed. In the case of petroleum containing vast of wax or heavy fractions, such as resins and asphaltene, when non-Newtonian behavior is evident, compositional character should be considered. An empirical correlation model based on the Chinese Liaohe crude oil is established. Asphaltene content was considered to be tightly attached to the model parameter. Results showed that asphaltene content has a significant influence to the viscosity of the heavy oil and the model is successfully fitted with the experiment data.
