Calculation Method of Economic Limit Index for Single-Well High Cyclic Huff and Puff in Heavy Oil Development

Heavy oil resource is abundant in the world, but exploitation cost is relatively high. Chinese heavy oil resource is mainly distributed in Liaohe, Xinjiang, Shengli and Henan oil field. PetroChina heavy oil output has maintained 10 million tons since 1998. Now the heavy oil production is mainly contributed by huff & Puff, and the stage of huff and puff in most heavy oil reservoirs is late with sharp decline in production. Therefore, it is very important to determine whether cyclic output is economic. In high cyclic huff & puff stage, firstly it is necessary to determine whether huff and puff currently undertaken should continue or not, and then to analyze whether huff and puff should continue the next cycle. The economic limit index of single-well of huff & puff is a crucial data to detenvine whether or not keep up development. The paper discusses a calculation method of economic limit index of huff & puff, as well as the effect of oil price on huff& puff economic limit index. For single-well huff and puff, the daily production limit, the cyclic production limit, and the oil-steam ratio limit have been calculated according to the cyclic operation cost and variable cost. As the daily production is less than the daily production limit, the cycle of huff & puff should be stopped. As single-well cyclic output and oil-steam ratio is less than the conesponding limit value, the next cycle of huff & puff should not be continued.
