The Northern Lights Project: A Synenco SinoCanada Partnership
As opportunities for growth decline in conventional oil production, the viability of oil sands development has become very attractive over the last decade and a cornerstone to Canadas energy future. With a resource rivaling that only of the Saudi Arabia, investment in the oil sands has reached an all time high promising a robust future with nearly certain economic returns. Synenco Energy was established for the sole purpose of acquiring and developing oil sands resources in the Athabasca Oil Sands region of Canada. Since its inception, Synenco has advanced steadily toward the goal of developing world class oil sands mining, extraction and upgrading facilities. The current independent best estimate of the Northern Lights Projects resources is 1.49 billion barrels ofin- place bitumen. The advantages of oil sands include low exploration cost, long reserve life, and long-term, stable production. With this in mind, the management team of Synenco Energy has set a clear path forward to help meet the energy demands of the world market. This paper will describe the nature of Synencos venture into this industry, its execution strategy, and outline some of the precautions being taken to minimize the environmental impact of plant operations. of plant operations.
