Heavy Oil - A Hidden Opportunity

Wood Mackenzie estimates currently recoverable reserves of heavy oil outside of the US to be just over 500 billion barrels. Over 90％ of these recoverable reserves are located in the rest of the Americas. Many challenges exist in the development of these reserves including refining capacity, co- operation between governments and international oil companies, plus recent dramatic cost inflation and resource constraints. Despite these challenges Wood Mackenzie believes that the potential of these resources outweighs the challenges and heavy oil provides opportunities for a range of companies.
