The Interested Regions Compression Algorithm of Still Image

A new interested regions compression algorithm of still image is introduced in this paper. Based on the classical EZW algorithm, this algorithm encodes the interested region of the image with a better quality, and does it with a low-grade quality in the unimportant region. The algorithm mentioned in the paper is effective to the applications that have better quality in the interested region of the image and low quality in the unimportant region of the image. Under the limited storage space condition, the image encoded by the algorithm not only meets the limit of the storage space, but also ensures the reconstructed image with a better quality.
