Study on the thick tip of lambswool of superffine merino sheep

Superfine wool of Merino sheep has many distinct characteristics, such as fine, soft and high crimpness. Generally, its mean diameter can reach 16.5μm and it is good material for fine worsted fabrics. However, the lambswool near the tip by primary follicle has a segment of thicker diameter, being 35~66μm, and the length of such segment is usually 16~22mm. Such fibers have ill influence on the performance of worsted fabrics, so it is necessary to remove them. But it is very difficult to weed out them in combing process, and considerable loss may be caused. Therefore, its better to shear the lambswool of the lamb, reserving them for other uses.
