Chemical and physical properties of feather fiber
The chemical and physical properties of the feather fiber were evaluated with weight loss, breaking strength and breaking elongation. The results revealed, feather fiber has good resistance to acid. The concentration of 150mL/L H<,2>SO<,4> solution almost had no effect on the physical properties of feather fiber, while its resistance to alkaline was poor. Feather fiber was sensitive to oxidant. 0.5mL/L NaClO decreased the breaking strength and breaking elongation of feather fiber distinctly. However, 200mL/L NaHSO<,3> did not induce distinct changes to the physical properties of the feather fiber. This paper could be used as the referenced material and theoretical foundation for the processing of feather fibers, or for the development and standardization of the yarn of the feather fibers and the relative products.
