Design and evaluation of wound bandage with mixed chitosan Fabric
There exists a contradiction between good medicine performance of biomaterial and its high cost. In this paper wound bandages with mixed chitosan fabric were designed which adopted woven double-faced structure and knitted jacquard-rid weave separately. And the feature of low chitosan content and high performance was achieved for the designed wound bandages which content of chitosan were 42.92% and 60.23%. Through analyzing their fabric structures and mechanical properties, the results show that the designed wound bandages were more superior to the non-woven dressings with pure chitosan in tensile strength, moisture absorption and capillary flow, which ensure the elastic property of wound bandages and enhance guiding flow of liquid at wound. And the structure characters can fully exert biological accommodation of the chitosan that fibers were mostly distributed in outer layer of blending fiber and closely attached on skin. The experimental results of antibacterial activity expressed that the designed wound bandages were effect on wound infection-proof. They have relative much higher microbial repellence to Escherichia coli, and staphylococcus aureus (>50%). Thus, good trend of market application is foreseen from the designed wound bandages.
