Preparation and properties of nanoparticles titania doped Ce<4+> by microwave irradiation
Some investigations have been reported on decomposition of organic dyes in water using nano- titania photocatalyst. In the study, nanoparticles titania doped rare earth cerium ions (Ce<4+>) was synthesized by process of sol-gel process using microwave irradiation method substituting high temperature calcinations usually used, and characterized for its structure by X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT-IR spectra and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The XRD results showed that the size and phase of nanoparticles titania doped Ce<4+> by microwave irradiation at 800W output power for 2h was considerably similar, compared with calcination at 550℃ for 3h. Characteristic adsorption of Ce--O and Ti--O function groups were identified by FT-IR spectra. More spherical nanoparticles, less agglomeration and more homogeneity were clearly seen in the SEM image. The average diameter of TiO<,2> of single nanoparticle was approximately 9nm in the SEM image.
