Fading of selected natural plant dyes on protein fiber under solar radiation
Photodegradation characteristics of natural plant dye R. coptidis and logwood were studied on the basis of solar radiant treatment. The effect of mordant and dyeing concentration and antioxidants on the light fastness of the fabric was evaluated. The natural dyestuffs were observed to have poor light fastness. However, mordant CuSO<,4> can effectively improve light fastness of both dyes. Dyeing concentration had some impacts on the light fastness of natural dye. And the results show that the antioxidants especially gallic acid can improve light fastness of R. coptidis and logwood.
