Modified silane sol treatment on wool for anti-felting finishing
A new modified precursor containing polyoxypropylenediamine (D-400) was prepared by reacted with 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS) and characterized by using FT-IR. Followed with absolute alcohols and water by hydrolysis and condensation, modified silane sol and GPTMS sol prepared respectively, then the two sols were all applied for anti-felting finishing by pad-dry-cure process under conditions of drying 3 minutes at 80℃ and curing 3 minutes at 160℃. Compared with the GPTMS sol, the area-shrinking rate of the wool samples treated by the modified silane sol, according to IWS test method 31, decreased from 6. 534% to 3.513%, while the untreated sample area-shrinking was 12.738%, at the same time, the treated sample feeling improved better. By using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) observation, the wool surface coated with a continuous thin layer, which made wool fabrics D. F. E decreased, so the good anti-felting effect achieved.
