Synthesis of grafted starch copolymerization size for wool yarn sizing in the microwave field
Sizing the wool yarn is one of the important ways to make light wool fabrics. The sizing machine and sizing agents are two key problems in wool yarn sizing. Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) is still the main sizing agent in wool sizing, which is regarded as non-tidy sizing agent, for it is hard to be degraded. Grafted starch copolymer is regarded as one of the best products among all the modified starches to replace PVA. The grafted starch copolymerization synthesized by the traditional way is in liquid state, which limited the use of grafted starch copolymerization. With the rapid development of Microwave Induced Organic Reaction Enhancement Chemistry (MORE Chemistry), the synthesis of grafted starch copolymerization size has seen the new way. This paper describes the synthesis of grafted starch copolymerization size in the microwave field. Infrared spectrogram and DSC proved that the reaction was easily done in the microwave field. The properties of grafted starch copolymerization size, such as its Brabender graph, viscosity; viscosity stability, degree of grafting, grafting frequency and the molecular weight of grafted starch have been tested.
