Two different plasma modification on the surface properties of wool fiber

The low temperature plasma technology can effectively achieve modification on the surface. Basic principle of plasma technology and its application on the wool surface treatment are discussed in this article. It compares with the friction performance, capillarity effect and tensile breaking strength of treated wool. This experiment uses low pressure glow discharge (LPGD) and single electrode atmospheric pressure (SEAP) to treat the wool fiber, compared with the effect of wool performance under different plasma treatment conditions. According to the using of scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Infrared Raman Microscope, this article carefully researches the structure and characteristics of treated wool. The experimental results show that under the different plasma treatment conditions, the surface of wool fiber appeared varying degrees of physics and chemical etching. Both surface performance and capilarity effect of wool fiber are improved greatly. Seen from the trend of development, plasma technology has great potential on surface modification of wool fiber.
