Swarm Intelligence Algorithm for Reliability Analysis

In some cases, classical methods, such as FORM/SORM methods, RSM and Monte-Carlo methods, can be computationally expensive or inaccurate. The estimation of reliability can be reduced to the solution of an optimization problem in the standardized normal space of the variables. Two methods (particle swarm algorithm and ant colony algorithm) are proposed to solve the global optimization problem, which arises to find the points of maximum likelihood, and the efficiency of the methods compared to classical methods is illustrated with several examples. The results are sufficiently accurate with acceptable computational cost.
