Determining Optimum Number of Docks by Queuing Theory
In logistics system, how many docks the warehouse requires and the ability of loading and unloading cargoes are important issues in the design of the warehouse for cargoes flow control. In this paper, an M/M/1 queue is used to model the total costs per unit period, from which the optimum ability of loading and unloading is obtained. Furthermore, another total costs model by an M/M/C queue is presented and the optimum solution to the problem is calculated by minimizing the total costs. Finally, the performance of the proposed model is simulated through an example.
