A Position and Topology Based Hybrid Routing Algorithm for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
Topology based routing protocols usually use the information of links to forward data packets in mobile ad hoc networks. The routing maintenance is often invoked because the constructed routings often break due to the mobility of the nodes. Position based routing algorithms uses the position information of nodes to select the next hop, and forward the packets toward the direction of the destination. They need neither construct nor maintain routings, but they need location service in order to get the position information of the destination. This paper proposes a hybrid routing algorithm based on topology and position information, which can get the position information of nodes in the process of routing being constructed, and which doesnt need the location service. When the constructed routing fails, if the source node has the position information of the destination, the source will send the data packets directly toward the direction of destination using the forwarding strategy based on position. The algorithm reduces the times of routing maintenance and gets rid of the location service, which not only decreases the overhead, but also improves the performance of routing.
