A low complex frequency domain nondata-aided channel estimation for indoor time-hopping UWB communication system1
This paper proposes a low complex frequency domain channel estimation for ultra-wideband indoor environment. The channel parameters are the attenuations and delays incurred by the signal echoes along the propagation paths. Time-hopping(TH) modulation with binary symbols is assumed. Codewords span a transmission frame. Frames are separated by a guard time to cope with the channel time dispersion. The estimation method is based on the maximumlikelihood criterion and is applied to the scenario with unknown symbols (NDA estimation). The proposed algorithm has low complexity for the privilege of the channel without ISI. The effects of the estimation errors on the performance of a Rake receiver are assessed by simulation by comparing the receiver bit-error rate with either perfect channel estimates or imperfect estimates as obtained from the proposed algorithms
