Developments in Charge Control Agents
Charge control agents modify toner charging characteristics and maintain the optimum frictional charge amount of the toner. The triboelectrical charge of 20-40μc/g is suitable for toners. Charge control agents or charge additives, charge assistants, charge stabilizers, and charge directing agents, as usually called, fall into two categories; negative charge control agents and positive charge control agents. The widely used charge control agents are metal complexes, which can be identified by FD-MS technique. Colorless or light color charge control agents which contain no harmful heavy metals and yield negative value in the Ames test are preferable.
