PLANNING & DESIGN PROGRESS REPORT ON EXPO 2010 SHANGHAI CHINA
The planning and design preparation of Expo 2010 Shanghai China has three major aspects-Program and Site Strategy, Planning and Design, and Project Construction. Straddling the Huangpu River, this 5.28 km2 site consists of five zones. Major facilities include Theme Pavilion, National Pavilion Zone of over 160 buildings, a series of International Organization Pavilions and Corporate Pavilions, and City Pavilions in Urban Best Practices Area. Also included are the Expo public facilities, among them Public Event Center, Expo Village and Expo Administration Center. The projected total visits during the half-year Expo duration amount to 70 million, with average daily visit of 400,000. This figure will set a new record in the history of World Exposition. The masterplan and urban design have taken this into considerations, and provisions have been made for adequate transportation system, open spaces, landscaped areas and other support facilities. Some the Expo-related infrastructures are currently under construction. Several international architectural design competitions for large-scale pubic facilities are underway and a lot more are yet to come.
