PRODUCER SERVICES GROWTH: A GLOBAL IMPACT ON HO CHI MINH CITYS CHANGING ECONOMY TOWARDS A FUTURE MEGA CITY
One critical element of Mega City development is the clustering of global city functions within a strong core area. These functions emerge as the mega city develops greater economic integration with the global economy. Vietnam is one of the most rapidly growing economies in the most dynamic region of the world. Its strong political and economic reform has provided the location for globally focused development and step-by-step improvement in its position in the world. Within this context, Ho Chi Minh City-the Vietnamese largest city-plays an important role in attracting the highest share of foreign investment capital and dominates the countrys GDP. Ho Chi Minh Citys economic growth has been formed by both manufacturing and service sector. One prominent outcome has been the emergence of service sector. Following global trends, Producer Services are present and rapidly growing in Vietnam in particular in Ho Chi Minh City. This is producing a local version of the strong service sector core at the heart of the mega city.
