MARKESTRUCTURE: MEGA-CITY AS FREE MARKET MEGASTRUCTURE
This paper reintroduces some historical territory of megastructure, architectures last significant engagement in largescale planning principles, and suggests that megastructure remains a relevant tool for architects to understand and engage urban systems. New developments in the principles of systems organization that underlay the megastructure movement have led to a new form of architectural expression for megastructure complicit with market forces that we call markestructure. The role of markestructure in the contemporary mega-city is explored in a series of case studies from North America in the role of public-private partnerships in a variety of urban development projects.
