MISMATCH OF ACTION SPACE ORGANIZATION AND BEHAVIOR PROPENSITIES IN THE RAPID URBANIZATION SHANGHAI: A CASE STUDY OF YOUNG OFFICE WORKERS
The pace of development in Chinese cities witnesses an incessant wave of urban reform towards a market- directed system in many sectors. Along the gradual way to housing privatization, proportion of direct housing consumption is growing, with an obvious growth observed especially in recent years in the several metropolitan cities, like Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai. The cellular-structure formed during the socialist period is under reforming, although the impact of institutional contextual factors-e. g., work-unit-still remains more powerful. When housing market is becoming one of the primary, mechanisms of residence allocation, through which residents are the decision-makers, the strength of housing preference is expressed gently. However, the reforming of residential structure resulted from an aggregated individual choice may be still weak to afford evidence of improved match of demanding and supply. In literature on Chinese cities, the understanding of consumers at a finer level has long been ignored. Now, essential is the need to a better understanding of residents residential location preference.
