SIMULATION OF VENTILATED FACADES FOR HYBRID VENTILATION
In this report the development of an innovative ventilation system which integrates climate responsive building elements with an innovative building envelope system were investigated. This resulted in further integration of a climate responsive facade and an energy efficient MVAC system. Thermal building simulations (TRNSYS) were linked to nodal airflow network simulations (COMIS) for airflow window and double-skin facade performance calculation and overall energy consumption for office building facades. The potential for natural ventilation was estimated and a hybrid mode for airflow through the building was proposed. An analysis of different orientations shows even for those orientations which receive large amounts of solar radiation up to 32% reduction of cooling load. This results in significant energy conservations and a reduction in systems cooling size.
