A STORY OF PARTNERSHIP PLANNING FOR A SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY FOR PUBLIC HOUSING DEVELOPMENT IN HONG KONG
Working together works. This study presents a story of partnering among stakeholders to plan towards a sustainable community for a public housing redevelopment project in Upper Ngau Tau Kok which has won the Grand Award for the Green Building Award 2006 organized by Hong Kong Professional Green Building Council. The focus of the Hung Kong Housing Authority (HKHA) is to provide housing assistance to low income families in need. Environmental, Health and Safety Policy has always been a key focus in the public housing development. HKHA has formed strong bond with stakeholders in nourishing a culture for developing sustainable housing in the new millennium, including staff, residents, business partners, academia, researchers, green groups and concerned groups. By holistic planning for a Sustainable Community, the redevelopment proposal revitalizes the old Ngau Tan Kok Estate and their neighborhoods with objectives to plan for a Sustainable Community with balanced economic, social and environmental initiatives.
