The Experimental Studio of Construction in Tsinghua University
The design studios of construction on the scale of 1:1 are a series experiments in Tsinghua University to advance student-centered leaning in the field of architectural design. The theme is a small-scaled building or structure in the campus will be built for exhibition, projecting, doing homework, taking a rest, etc. The building or structure should be within the scope of 2×2×2 meters, and can be built mainly by wood and other materials which can be easily and cheaply bought in housework stores. Following the steps of material and construction survey, idea and discussion, sketch model, detail improvement, machining process on real scale, presentation and value, this process of construction and study on mobility give us a standing point to review the characteristics of building, to deconstruct the subjective firmness and permanency in architecture. The lightness, changeability, flexibility, etc. of alternative architecture may present us a new vision of architecture in the future.
