NEW PTERODACTYLOID PTEROSAUR FROM THE LOWER CRETACEOUS YIXIAN FORMATION OF WESTERN LIAONING
A possible lonchodectid pterosaur from the Lower Cretaceous Jingangshan bed of the Yixian Formation, western Liaoning, is described herein. Based on a partial skull and postcranial skeleton, a new genus and species, Yixianopterus jingangshanensis, are erected. The new taxon is characterized by relatively short, subequal-sized, well-spaced rostral teeth; the lengths of wing phalanx 1 and wing phalanx 2 nearly equal; the length of wing phalanx 1 is twice the length of that of metacarpal IV; and the length ratio of metacarpal IV to ulna is 0.64. Yixianopterus represents the first lonchodectid pterosaur outside of England.
