The Distribution of Human Capital and Economic Growth in China
Based on a theoretical consideration of human capital production technology, this paper empirically investigates the growth implication of dispersion of population distribution in terms of educational attainment levels. Using a. pooled data set of 28 provinces from 1991 to 2003, this paper finds that dispersion index as well as average index of human capital influences productivity growth remarkablely. Given limited social resources for human capital investment, the findings imply that education policy which creates more dispersion in the human capital will promote growth.
