A Cost-Sensitive-based Forensic-Oriented Intrusion Detection Mechanism Using Genetic Algorithm in Wireless Networks
Forensic-oriented Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) need to maximize security and at the same time reduce the cost. We briefly discuss the factors in IDS and some cost model applied in IDS. In this paper, we present a genetic algorithm (GA) for generating efficient rules for cost-sensitive detection mechanism in forensic-oriented intrusion detection systems in wireless network environment. Although genetic algorithm (GA) technique has been applied to general classification to our knowledge, it has not been exploited to address cost-sensitive classification in the literature, where the costs of misclassification errors are non-uniform. The GA is implemented and evaluated on the KDDCup 99 dataset. This method is comparable to the winners of the KDDCup 99 competition.
