High-Performance Microporous Carbon-zeolite T Composite Membrane for CO2/CH4 Separation

Novel carbon/zeolite T composite membrane materials with tailorable gas transport properties were fabricated by pyrolysis of polyamic acid/zeolite T composites. The microstructure and gas permeability of these chemically robust materials were characterized by SEM, XRD and gas permeation tests. The results show that zeolite T was well dispersed in the carbon matrix and the crystal microstructures was not destroyed during the pyrolysis. Gas permeation test indicated that the composite membranes exhibited outstanding permeability together with high selectivity. It is believed that the zeolite T embedded in the carbon matrix decreased the gas diffusion resistance and improved the gas permeation rate. The composite membrane has an intrinsic CO2/CH4 selectivity of 15 with CO2 permeability of 1532 Barrer 1 Barrer =1× 10 -10 cm 3 (STP)·cm/cm 2 ·s·cmHg.
