Measurement and Correlation of Liquid-Liquid Equilibrium for the Multi-component Systems with Ethyl Benzene
In the various fields of separation process design, vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) and liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) data play important roles. These equilibrium data are the basis for design and operation of separation processes. The principal use for Epichlorohydrin (ECH) is in the production of epoxy resins, synthetic glycerin and surfactants. ECH is a liquid expoxide most frequently manufactured by the chlorohydrination of allyl chloride. ECH is normally separated from mixture containing water, methanol and allyl chloride and selection of proper extraction solvent is important. In this study, liquid-liquid equilibrium phase compositions were measured for the ternary system composed of water, methanol and ethyl benzene. Vapor-liquid equilibrium system is calculate by COSMOthermX for the binary system composed of ECH, allyl chloride and ethyl benzene. To measure the solubility of this system, a LLE measurement apparatus was used and compositions were analyzed by on-line gas chromatography. Calculated VLE data were correlated by PR EOS. Measured LLE data were correlated by UNIQUAC method.
