The study on catalytic distillation of methyl acetate hydrolysis

The hydrolysis of methyl acetate is difficult because of reaction equilibrium limitations and the formation of methyl acetate (MeOAc)-methanol and methyl acetate-water minium-boiling azeotropes. Reaction, extraction and distillation proceed in different equipments in the conventional process. The abroad have started to replace the old art with reactive distillation since 80s because the old process not only invest greatly, consume high but also attain low reactant conversions.1 Currently, the domestic factories still are known as the majority of the traditional art. The author turns with the hydrolysis of methyl acetate proceeded thorough research and carried out the industrialization experiments in Gui Zhou Crystal Organic Chemical (Group) CO., Ltd. The author made use of the Pro/II simulation software and adopted the nonequilibrium stage model to simulate the reactive distillation process, through which, we adjusted the operation condition, and found the best one.
