Multicomponent equilibria of C4 components

Single component and binary equilibrium adsorption of n-butane and 1-butene were measured on NaX and KX using volumetric method at different temperatures ranging from 298 – 333 K. The pure component adsorption capacity ratios are only around 1.15 on both the adsorbents in the temperature range studied. But the relative adsorptivity calculated from the binary equilibrium adsorption data shows a high value of 34.0 at 298 K on NaX at 0.5 gas phase mole fraction of n-butane. Binary adsorption equilibria and the relative adsorptivity values confirm that n-butane molecules are weakly adsorbed on both the adsorbents in presence of 1-butene and the n-butane molecules in the adsorbed phase can easily be replaced with 1-butene.
