Assessment of Carbon Materials for Vehicular Natural Gas Storage

Design of a new storage tank for natural gas fuel is the biggest challenge in the energy sector. Adsorbed natural gas storage (ANG) system is becoming a popular method due to its simplicity as well as low operation cost. The activated carbon compromises all the essential qualities which are required for the optimum operation of adsorbed natural gas storage system. Methane adsorption on numerous laboratory made and commercial activated carbons was evaluated. Among all, rice-husk activated carbon (AC-RH) shows the highest methane adsorption capability on a mass basis owing to its high surface area.
