Sorption and Diffusion of Disperse Dyes in Polymeric Textile Fibers in the Presence of Supercritical CO2

Sorption and diffusion of C. I. Disperse Yellow 54 (Yellow 54) dye into poly(tetramethylene terephthalate) (PTT) and poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) textile fibers were measured under supercritical fluid conditions. The amount of sorption increased with temperature and pressure for both PTT and PET textiles. PTT textile has much more dye sorption than PET textile. The diffusivities of Yellow 54 dye calculated from the dye diffusion data were in the order of 10 -12 cm 2 /sec, increasing with increasing temperature and pressure. The diffusivity in the PTT textile is about 1.5 to 3 times as large as that in the PET textile.
