Adsorbing Properties of Betaine by Cation exchange resin

The colormetric method was used to determined the betaine content and the adsorption characteristics of betaine by cation exchange resin was studied. The results showed that the adsorption isotherm belonged to the exponential type and the adsorption data could be simulated well by Freundlich equation. The separation of betaine from the waste molasses by the cation exchange resin was investigated. The velocity of flow of sample loading and desorption was 40 ml/min and 30 ml/min respectively and the elution of HCL was 1.5 mol/L. Finally, The content of betaine from beet molasses was determined by HPLC.
