Recovery of propane from air/nitrogen using PDMS composite membrane by vapour permeation

This study deals with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)/ polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) composite membranes for propane separation from air/nitrogen, which is relevant to the recovery of propane from petroleum and chemical industry. The morphology of composite membranes was observed by SEM. The effects of the types of cross-linking agents and various operating conditions (I.e., temperature, pressure, feed composition) on the membrane permselectivity were investigated. The permeability of nitrogen was independent of feed pressure and increased with the temperature increasing. However, the permeability of propane increased with the pressure increasing and the temperature decreasing. At 25 ℃ And 500kPa, permeability coefficient of propane of the composite membrane was 5000Barrer, and the separation factor of propane and nitrogen was 15. The results showed that PDMS/PVDF composite membranes were promising for the separation of propane from nitrogen.
