Flux enhancement by turbulence promoters in microfiltration of CaCO3 suspensions
To alleviate membrane fouling during microfiltration (MF) of CaCO3 suspensions, the turbulence promoters was used to improve the hydrodynamic conditions on the membrane surface, thereby achieving a better filtration performance. In this study, the effects of two type of baffles, central baffle and wall baffle, on the permeate flux were investigated. The results showed that each type of baffle can significantly improve filtration flux. The enlargement of power consumption was also examined. It was economic for the use of turbulence promoter to enhance filtration flux at a high concentration of feed suspension.
