Characterization and antioxidant activity of polysaccharide from Fructus Corni
The characterization and bioactivities of polysaccharide (PFC), isolated from Fructus corni (fruit of Cornus officinalis Sieb. Et Zucc. Of the Cornaceae family), have been investigated. The polysaccharides showed potential antioxidant activity by scavenging superoxide anion, hydroxyl free radicals and hydrogen peroxide, which were confirmed by inhibiting oxidation of axunge and gingili, inhibiting lipid peroxidation of mice liver homogenate and inhibiting hemolysis of mice RBC. The polysaccharide that exhibited excellent bioacitvity was found to consist of xylose and glucose in a molar ratio of 18.8: 81.2 with a molecular weight of 7.57 ×10 4 Dalton. It was linked by (1->4)-|? -D-glucose in main chain and (1 ->4)-|? -D-xylose, (1->6)-|? -D-glucose and (1 ú)-|? -D-glucose in side branch.
